Originally from Yelm, Washington, Claire attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelors degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Following graduation Claire was accepted to the Peace Corps in Kenya, where she spent two years teaching in a small deaf primary school in Western Kenya. Following this, she extended her Peace Corps experience for a third year to work with OCI as a teacher at the Menara Primary School in Koru, Kenya, where she was until July of 2014.

Claire’s objectives for teaching at Menara were to develop interactive classrooms, teach reading comprehension, literacy and life skills, as well as plan weekly teacher training meetings with the teaching staff. Claire is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Colorado State University and completing her teaching certificate in Primary Education and Special Education.
