Carolyn earned a BFA in both photography and Studio for Inter-related Media (SIM) at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, graduating with Distinction and Departmental Honors. In 2005, she received her M.Ed. and Mass. teaching licensure in English from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. That year Carolyn joined The Rashi School faculty where she is in her tenth year teaching middle school English/Language Arts. Carolyn has also spent most of her summers teaching high school literature and writing at urban schools such as Prospect Hill Academy Charter School in Somerville and the Community Charter School of Cambridge. She lives in the Boston area with her husband, son, two dogs, and one cat, and is expecting her second child in May 2015.

Carolyn was awarded one of the first teaching fellowships to travel with OCI in June 2012.  In Koru, she co-developed and facilitated a teacher education seminar for area principals and teachers in standards K-8 that discussed Western and Kenyan pedagogy and offered “mini-courses” that introduced differentiated instruction and kinesthetic learning.   Carolyn also worked on-on-one with teachers to develop lesson plans for their classes that implemented techniques and strategies highlighted in the seminar.
